The Hawaiian word ‘LUAU’ translated means feast, so make sure your Hawaiian fancy Dress Party is both a ‘feast’ to the eye as well as the taste buds. Why wait for the summer, bring the summer to you, what better way to cheer the winter blues, than have ‘summer party’ with Inflatable Sun and Tropical Bird Cut-outs turn your winter house into a house full of sunshine!!! Turn the party into a real event send Invitations or put your imagination to work and put the invitation in a bottle send your Message In A Bottle . Age your ‘message’ by painting the paper over with a wash of cold tea, or make your own invitations and attach them to a Plastic Leis to whet their appetite and get them into the ‘summer’ mood.

If your Hawaiian Party is indoors, use Scene Setters to decorate walls and windows, they stick but will cause absolutely no damage to paintwork/wallpaper etc., extremely clever things!!! If the party is outside, put them on your patio doors or mount them on a sheet of plywood or similar, they look fantastic, and do what they say, set the scene. REFRESHMENT IDEAS

Pineapple Boat - serves 8 – 10

1 ripe Pineapple
1 Cantaloupe Melon
1 Watermelon
Strawberries
Bananas
Seedless Grapes
Oranges
Apples
Kiwis
Shredded coconut.

Prepare pineapple boat by cutting pineapple in half, lengthways, leaving the crown attached. Cut close to the shell with a curved knife or thin, sharp knife. Remove the fruit. Cut out the centre core. Cut the pineapple and other fruit into bite-size cubes the melons into balls. Mix all the ingredients together and serve in the shell. Sprinkle the shredded coconut on the top. Great for both a starter on a hot summer evening or as a pudding.


Sweet & Sour Pork – Serves 15

1.5lb pork cut into bite size cubes
Half cup of flour
1 egg
Half cup of milk
Pinch of salt and pepper
1 can of Pineapple Chunks – save liquid
1stalk of celery sliced in small pieces
Half a green pepper diced
One small onion diced
Four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
One tablespoon of sugar
One tablespoon of Soya sauce.
One tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce.

Make a batter by combining the flour with cold milk until mixture is smooth with no lumps. Add more milk if needed. Add beaten eggs, salt and pepper. Batter should be thick enough to coat meat. Dip pork pieces into batter and deep fry in vegetable oil. Drain on paper towels. Sauté green pepper, onion and celery in oil. When brown add pineapple (drained of liquid) and cooked meat. Separately mix the cider vinegar, soy sauce, pineapple juice and sugar and add to the ingredients in the skillet. Heat all ingredients together until piping hot (about 10 minutes) Serve with rice as a main course.


Island Chicken - Serves 20


3 Large onions, sliced thinly
1 whole clove of garlic diced
1 bottle of Soya sauce
Half tablespoon powdered ginger
2 tablespoons honey mustard
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Juice from half a lemon
3 whole chickens cut up.

Make the marinade by mixing the first 7 ingredients together.
Marinate the chicken pieces for 30 minutes, covered in the refrigerator. Barbeque and continue to baste with the marinade while turning.

Hauoli is the Hawaiian word for ‘happy’ which is how you will feel when you drink the following punch, especially if you add the rum!!!!

HAUOLI ISLAND PUNCH - 30 servings

I carton of cranberry juide
A carton of orange juice
A carton of apple juice
A carton of pineapple juice
1 bottle of lemonade or seven-up
The above ingredients should be cold from the fridge
Half litre bottle of rum.
Ice

Mix cold juices together in a large punch bowl. Add the rum and ice. Add carbonated soft drink just prior to serving.
